Alene McLaughlin Obituary

Alene Whitfield McLaughlin, 90, of Allentown, Florida, went home to our heavenly Father, Tuesday, April 3, 2018. She will be remembered by all that knew her for her tremendous faith and incorrigible laugh. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was blessed with the ability to laugh at herself. Alene faced more than her fair share of sufferings, but she came out the other side with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. Born the seventh of ten children, Alene was proud of her close-knit family. She had many fond memories and amusing stories about growing up in such a large family. Starting a family of her own with the “handsomest boy I ever laid eyes on” was her greatest joy. Alene was a devoted wife to Mack and mother to three sons, Doug, Randy, and Gene. Once her boys were grown, Alene spent time with her grandbabies, went fishing with her husband, and enjoyed time with her siblings and their families. She also made sure to take time to improve herself. She got her GED in her 50s and began driving for the first time in her life in her 60s. When most people are planning on slowing down, she was just getting started! She remained active in her church and in her retirement home until hours before her passing. Alene is preceded in death by her parents Paul and Lillie Whitfield, Wilson Whitfield (brother), Odis Whitfield (brother), Ruth Whitfield Polk (sister), Irene Whitfield Byrd (sister), Edward Whitfield (brother), Carl Whitfield (brother), Laurnette Whitfield Kennington (sister), Dean Whitfield Penton (sister), Raymond “Mack” McLaughlin (husband), Douglas McLaughlin (son), and Gene McLaughlin (son). Alene is survived by her son, Randy (Cindy) McLaughlin of Allentown, Florida; sister, Lois Whitfield Flesher of Ft. Walton, Florida; nine grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral Services will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 6, 2018, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with her son, Randy McLaughlin, officiating. Visitation will be held 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. prior to the service. Private Burial will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff at Berryhill Manor for the love and care given to their mother, sister, and grandmother during the last few years of her life.
