Alice Holloway

Ruth Griffin Holloway, age 63, of Milton, Florida passed away Monday, December 26, 2011, at home with her family, after fighting a long and courageous fight with cancer. Ruth was born in Milton, Florida on November 19, 1948. She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn L. Holloway, father and mother Joseph Bill and Merle Griffin, three brothers Joe Griffin, Homer Griffin and J.B. Griffin, two sisters Lila Griffin Chuites and Patsy Griffin Black. Survivors include son Steve Holloway (Tracy) and daughter Amy Holloway-Adams; two grandchildren, Bryan Garrett Holloway and Kate Addisyn Holloway and grand-dog Charleigh. Two brothers, Carl Griffin (Pauline) and Clinton Griffin (Phyllis), two sisters Ann Randolph and Judy Hodges (Mark); many nieces and nephews and many special friends; including Mae Manning and the late Lewis T. Manning. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Graduate of Milton High School in 1966, retired from the State of Florida in 2005 after many years of service. Ruth enjoyed camping, gardening, being outdoors and spending time with her grandchildren. She was looked up to as “An Angel” by everyone who was ever in need. Ruth was a generous contributor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and The American Cancer Society. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Chuites, Phillip Jernigan, Greg Manning, Mike Manning, Robert “Bob” Qualls Sr., Tony Randolph and Steve Stephens. Active pallbearers are Randy Black, Jason Browning, Aaron Busche, Michael Chuites, Brian Lowe and Marty Steed. Services will be conducted 1:00 PM Friday, December 30, 2011 at Lewis Funeral Home in Milton with Pastor Fred Rogers officiating; burial will be at Crain Cemetery, Milton. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Lewis Funeral Home in Milton. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Thomas Sunnenberg, Dr. Mary Alfano-Torres, the staff of Sacred Heart Cancer Center, the staff at Sacred Heart Hospital/St. Catherine’s and Covenant Hospice staff for the continuous care, support and encouragement. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, Pensacola, Florida and/or St. Jude’s Children Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
