Barbara Jean (Smith) Belcher, 79, of Milton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, May 5, 2016. Barbara was born on March 3, 1937, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to Mildred and Raymond Smith. She began her education in a one room school house and was the first in her family to obtain a college degree. She was a 1955 graduate of Conemaugh Township High School. After graduation she joined the Women's Air Corp and became a lab technician where she met the love of her life Robert Belcher. In August of 1957 Barbara and Bob began their married life and went on to have three children. Barbara was a homemaker and very active in her community. She was a member of the Milton Garden Club, Milton Jr. Women's Club, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, member of the MHS Band Boosters and various other philanthropic organizations. She was also a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church and was very proud of the work she did with the food pantry. Barbara enjoyed traveling, antiquing, playing dominoes and Jeopardy. In 1977 Barbara graduated from the University of West Florida with a degree in Political Science. She used her degree to substitute teach and as a social worker in the Milton area. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Mildred and Raymond Smith; and brothers, Jim Smith and Jack Smith. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Paul) Fellner of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; son, Ronald Belcher of St. Petersburg, Florida; son, Brian (Paula) Belcher of Milton, Florida; grandchildren, Paul Richard and Robert (Skyla) Fellner, Daniel and Emily Belcher and great grandchild, Nehemiah; special family friends, Jim Fitzgerald, Sue Wilson and Kathy Cabiniss. Friends will be received Monday, May 9, 2016, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., at Lewis Funeral Home in Milton. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. We would like to thank Dr. Dennis Mayeaux and the ICU Staff of SRMC for their care and concern.
