Betty Byrd Fulcher

Betty “Nana” Byrd Fulcher, 78, of Navarre, Florida passed away Saturday, July 8th, 2017 at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. Betty was born in Bunn Level, NC, the daughter of Douglas Byrd and Betty McLean Byrd. She was a graduate of New Bern High School in New Bern, NC. She served as personnel manager at Kmart stores in Northwest Florida until her retirement in 2005. Betty was a good friend to neighbors in the Pritchard Point community, enjoying happy hours by the water, pool gatherings and decorating for the holidays. Betty devoted her life to her family, following her husband around the world as an Air Force wife, along the way collecting international recipes that she enjoyed cooking for her friends and family at holidays and get-togethers. After making homes in Panama, the Netherlands, and the UP of Michigan, she spent the last 40 years of her life enjoying the white sandy beaches along the Gulf of Mexico, a home she never wanted to leave. Betty was preceded in death by her son-in-law James Andrew Sharp, a sister Elise Byrd Cavenaugh, and brothers Bobby Byrd and Douglas Byrd. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 60 years Joseph A. Fulcher of the home; daughters Joy Fulcher Sharp and spouse Robert Maxwell of Tryon, NC and Donna Fulcher Akers of Matthews, NC; grandchildren Sean J. Sharp of Gainesville, Fl, Cassady S. Craighill and spouse Charlie Craighill of Roanoke, VA, and Andrew J. Sharp of Asheville, NC; sisters Margie Tingen of Zebulon, NC and Lynda Sepulveda of Knightdale, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society of Fort Walton Beach, Fl or the Greater Charlotte Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Charlotte, NC. No public service is planned at this time.
