Betty Sue Nevels Ates, 77, of the Munson community, passed away suddenly Saturday, March 24, 2018, at West Florida Hospital. She was a native of Elba, Alabama, the third of ten children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Claudine Nevels; and her sister, Willigem Crocker.
She is survived by her husband of sixty years, J.W. Ates; and children Craig, Chris and Debra. She was blessed with grandchildren, James (Elizabeth) Ates, CJ (Amelia) Shupe, Danielle Ates, Daniel Ates, Arienne (Chris) Eubanks; seven great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Mary Dean Donaldson, Patton (Sandy) Nevels, Mike (Kay) Nevels, Totsye Nevels, Jeanne (Jim) Pepper, Obie (Reta) Nevels, Marty (Delaine) Nevels, and Gwen (Ron) Golden; and many nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother. A celebration of her life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, March 30, 2018, at Springhill Baptist Church. Visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., prior to the service.
Burial will follow services in the Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery.
