Betty Rowe Burnham Hines was born on July 15, 1937, in Hanceville, Alabama . She grew up and attended elementary school in Prattville, Alabama . She graduated from Autauga County High School in 1955 where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Hines. In 1956, she represented Autauga County in the Miss Alabama Beauty Contest where she won several college scholarships. Shortly after, Betty and Robert made their home in Milton, Florida, where they lived for the next 45 years. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church throughout her life. She attended the Massey Draughn Business School, Pensacola State College, earning her AA degree, and received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and her Master ’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of West Florida . She taught at SS Dixon and Pace Intermediate for 26 years as a 5th grade teacher. In 1982, she was honored with the "Santa Rosa County Teacher of the Year" award. She touched so many lives throughout her 26 years of her teaching career. However, of all her accomplishments, Betty’s greatest achievements have been in the lives of her children and grandchildren.
