Carolyn Helen Martini Norvell 1931 – 2012 Carolyn Helen Martini Norvell, 80, a resident of Navarre since 1999, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Carolyn Norvell was born on September 25, 1931, in Auburn, New York and was raised in Fair Haven, New York. At the age of 19 she began her life-long love affair with travel by joining the Air Force. While stationed near London, England, she met her future husband, a tall Staff Sergeant from Kentucky, Charles “Chuck” Norvell. They married on September 4, 1954 and had three children – Debbie, Dona and Rolf. She moved with Chuck and the kids to Air Force bases in Tennessee, North Carolina, California, Ohio, Colorado, Taiwan, Virginia, Alabama and Arkansas before settling in Palm City, Florida, in 1975. She worked for many years in federal civil service and later worked alongside her husband and other family members in Palm City in their building supply company. Carolyn and Chuck made many friends as they traveled the world together. They loved to cruise, had many happy excursions in their motor home, and spent time each year at Sanibel Island, Florida. Since moving to Navarre in 1999, Carolyn attended Navarre United Methodist Church. She made many friends in and was an active member of several organizations: Hidden Creek Ladies Golf Association, Emerald Coast Woman’s Club, Red Hatters, and the Holley-Navarre Senior Center Bridge Club. Her husband of 55 years, Charles Henry Norvell and her parents Rolf and Reva Martini preceded Mrs. Norvell in death. Carolyn is survived by two daughters: Debora Ann Rozzell (George) of North Little Rock, Ark.; Dona Jo Frizzell (Ted) of West Fork, Ark.; and son Charles Rolf Norvell (Michelle) of Navarre; seven grandchildren: George (Amber), Sara and Charles Rozzell; Justin and Erin Yares; Kyel Kidder and Riley Norvell and three step-grandchildren: Alice Frizzell (Chris Roach), Lauren and Alex Verrochi. She is also survived by her beloved sister Shirley Lyons (Mort Rubel) of Charlotte, N.C. and three sisters-in-law: Nancy Groves (Thomas), Joyce Norvell, and Patricia Norvell and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m April 1, 2012 at Navarre United Methodist Church, 9474 Navarre Parkway, officiated by Rev. Alan Cassady. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, Covenant Hospice or Navarre United Methodist Church.
