Carrie Elizabeth (Manning) Gilbert, 90, of Milton & Pensacola, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015. Carrie was born in Milton, Florida, and had lived and worked in Escambia county. She graduated from Chumuckla High School, where she played basketball. She is retired from Civil Service. Carrie enjoyed years of bowling, playing bridge in her bridge group, sitting on her porch and listening to the wind chimes while watching the birds. She especially loved spending time with her great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, William James Manning; mother, Pamelia Theresa Frye; brothers, Raymond Manning, Cecil Manning, John Manning, and Glen Manning; sisters, Annis Stegall and Clara Smith; and daughters, Charlotte Hatcher, Linda Kennedy, and Jackie Kennedy; and one grandson, Warren Gillman. Carrie is survived by her grandchildren, Amanda and Kevin Thompson, Alan and Angela Hatcher, and Darcey and Mark Wakeman; and her great-grandchildren, Kaleb McCarra, Kenzie and Karrie Thompson, Nathan and Ryan Hatcher, Heather Gillman, and Travis and Calvin Wakeman. She also leaves nieces and nephews, Elaine, Becky, Andy, Patty, Beth, Ronnie, Gayra, Bill, Charlie, Fred, Pam, Alta, Jerry and Marlene, to cherish her memory. The family thanks the staff and caregivers at the Forsythe House for making her feel so special and at home and for the wonderful love and care they showed her. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the staff at West Florida Hospital. A Memorial Service for Carrie will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. Visitation for family and friends will be held an hour prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
