Charles Schlecht Obituary

Charles Thomas Schlecht, Sr. age 87 of Milton, Fl. passed away peacefully on August 18, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was born on November 7, 1923 in Alpha, New Jersey to Christian and Elizabeth Schlecht. Charles served proudly for 30 years in the United States Navy as a flight engineer, and a hurricane hunter. He held various medals and honors for his service to our country including being a decorated veteran of World War II. After his retirement from the Navy, he also happily worked and retired from Santa Rosa Hospital as a member of maintenance and safety inspector. He was a graduate of Pensacola Junior College with an Associate of Arts Degree. He made many friends throughout his life, but his best friend was the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Dorothy. He loved, and was loved by his devoted children, Dorothy Ann (Larry) McGinness, Cathy (Phil) Ferguson, Pat (Larry) Colhour, Charles (Sherry) Schlecht, Jr., Beth Frazier; 28 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. His life was full of fun, adventure, and love. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 25, 2011 from 5 to 7 PM at the Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. Funeral Services will be Friday, August 26, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Lewis Funerl Home, Milton Chapel with burial to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Covenant Hospice Inpatient Care Center.
