Cheryl Marie Courtney October 7, 1961 – April 30, 2014 Cheryl Marie Courtney, 52, of Milton was born October 7, 1961 in Traverse City, Michigan to Wilbert and Hester Jernigan Courtney. She died on April 30, 2014 after a long battle with liver disease, under the care of Covenant Hospice. She was an Air Force “brat” and was privileged to live in and experience many places in our country. She graduated as Salutatorian from Sacred Heart Girls School in Biloxi, Ms. In 1978. She earned a full scholarship to Loyola University in New Orleans, La. She excelled in music and played flute in the Mississippi All-State Band for 3 years. She graduated from the University of South Alabama with a B.S. degree in Nursing in 1988. Cheryl was preceded in death by her grandparents, Gasque and Virginia Jernigan, with whom she had a special connection; grandparents, Larcenia Weaver and Ted Courtney; her Aunts, Jane Ward, Julie Booher (after whom she named her daughter), and Wynell Neal; special cousin, Dr. Alan Neal; and several friends that went to Heaven before her and a special dog, “Max”. Cheryl is survived by her daughter, Julianne Marie Courtney; grandson, Jasper Jackson Clement; and her parents, Wilbert (Bill) and Hester Courtney. The family wishes to thank Sacred Heart Hospital and the many Nurses and Doctors there that took care of her over this past year. Thank you to Dr. Banuelos, in Milton whom accepted her as a patient when she was “too sick” for many Doctors. Cheryl moved back into her parents’ home for this last year of her life so her parents could lovingly care for her. Cheryl’s spirit and heart touched so many people throughout her life. She will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life Service for Cheryl will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Milton. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 pm on Sunday at the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Milton, prior to services.
