Clarence Meissner Obituary

Clarence Raymond “Bud” Meissner, 93, a longtime resident of Milton, Florida, passed away on February 16, 2015. He was born in Elmore, Minnesota, on November 28, 1921. He was one of seven children born to the late Ernest Meissner and Bertha Richter Meissner, and was raised in the Lutheran faith. He attended the University of Minnesota and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942, where he served as a fighter pilot in WWII aboard the U.S.S. Essex Carrier and later on the U.S.S. Leyte. He was a member of the Night Fighter Squadron and received several commendations including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal Philippines, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. After his 22 years of service, he retired at NAS Whiting Field in Milton, Florida. After retirement, he started his own business, Marble Craft, Inc. where he worked for fifty years in remodeling and new construction. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed boating, deep sea fishing, hunting, and gardening, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was a very kind and compassionate man with a beautiful smile, a keen sense of humor, and never had a harsh word to say about anyone. We are thankful for the 93 years of life God gave him. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. We have a lifetime of memories that we will treasure always. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Elmer, sister Elaine, and daughter, Pam. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Gloria; their daughter, Linda Clubbs (Roger); their son, Scott Meissner (Connie); four grandchildren, Jessica Ewert, Heather Chandler (Tony), David Clubbs (Rebekah), and Christopher Meissner; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Meissner (Bev) and Roger Meissner (Donna); and two sisters, Edna Martin and Carol Nelson (Rod). Visitation will be held Monday, February 23, 2015, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m., on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at Pleitz Chapel, First Baptist Church of Pensacola, with Pastor Barry Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or charity of your choice.
