Clarke Duarte

Clarke Antone Duarte, 76, of Navarre, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017. Clarke was born January 3, 1941, in Lewiston, Maine, to birthparents, Antone and Fernande (Gagne) Duarte. Clarke married Janet Hitchings on November 23, 1961, in Peterborough England. He was a highly decorated U.S. Army CW4 Helicopter Pilot with two successful tours in the Vietnam War. He honorably served our country for twenty-seven years. After his retirement from the military, he worked for 19 years as a chief pilot for private helicopter transportation companies, Air Logistics Inc. and Pumpkin Air; and retired in 2003. He was a longtime member of St Sylvester Catholic Church, Gulf Breeze/Navarre. He was also a member of the Shriners and Elks Lodge. Clarke is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jan Duarte; two sons, Tracy Duarte and Timmy Duarte; three grandsons, Miles, Mason and River Duarte; step-mother, Gloria Duarte; and two step-sisters, Gloria Nobriga and Gail Duarte. Clarke was an outstanding patriot, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was extremely smart, meticulous, giving, and had a terrific sense of humor. If you knew him, you WILL miss him! Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, September 14, 2017, at St Sylvester Catholic Church (6464 Gulf Breeze Pkwy, Gulf Breeze, FL 32563), with Father John Kelly officiating. Visitation will be held 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow services in Barrancas National Cemetery, Shelter A, onboard Pensacola Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida. Lewis Funeral Home, Navarre Chapel, has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made I Clarke’s name to Saint Sylvester Catholic Church.
