Clifton Spencer Milton, Florida Obituary

Clifton Spencer

William "Clifton" Spencer 1926-2011 William "Clifton" Spencer, age 84 of Milton, Florida, passed away peacefully at a local hospice facility on October 10, 2011, after a brief illness. He was born on November 28, 1926, along with his twin brother, Holley, to James A. Spencer and Carrie Mae McMillan Spencer. The arrival of the Twins was quite the talk of the town and their antics proved entertaining to all who have known them throughout their lives. Clifton attended elementary and high school in Milton, and graduated from Marion Military Institute. He and Holley served together in the Army and were stationed in Rome, Italy right after WWII. He attended FSU for two years and returned home to farm and manage timber on the family property. He also worked at the family's saw mill. Clifton, along with Holley and Johnnie, as the Spencer Brothers, built the first modern shopping center in Milton, and were successful business men for many years. As a child, Clifton and Holley loved to hunt and fish the wild areas in Santa Rosa County. This passion led them on many trips to Wyoming, New Mexico, Alaska, Canada, Central and South America, and Africa. He also had a fondness for fishing in many lakes in Central and South Florida with family and friends. Clifton lived his life with gusto and enjoyed every adventure as well as just living everyday life. His fun loving, easy-going nature and positive outlook on life allowed him to make friends easily everywhere he went. He is admired by many who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bud, Almon, and Johnnie; and his first wife, Betty Ann. He leaves behind his beloved daughters, Suzanne and Kathy; son-in-law, David; grandchildren, Will, Emma, and Tyler; brother, Holley; special friend, Ann; and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2PM Saturday, October 15, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Milton, with Rev. David Spencer, officiating. Burial to follow in the Milton Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7PM Friday, October, 14, 2011 at the Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel. Special thanks to the professional, loving care provided by the 6th. Floor, South nursing staff at West Florida Hospital and the nursing staff at Covenant Hospice Inpatient and Palliative Care Center of West Florida Hospital. Pallbearers will be Bobby Sample, Ollie Sample, Roy Andrews, Ned McMath, Butch Lindsay, and Mike McCombs. Friends may send condolences and share fond memories with the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.net.
