Constance Taylor Obituary

Constance Shea Taylor passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, August 24, 2016. She was 92 years old. Connie was born March 10, 1924, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to Anne Elizabeth Mahoney Shea and Cornelius Humphrey Shea. Her father was born in County Kerry, Ireland. Her mother was born in Winchendon, Massachusetts. Always proud of her 100% Irish heritage she could and did sing many Irish songs. She loved music. It was an important and happy part of her life. Her children were always delighted to hear her play and sing her favorite, Danny Boy. After high school she attended Worcester School of Business Science. She worked for the Worcester War Price and Rationing Board during WWII. She was a 20 year Red Cross Volunteer at the NAS Pensacola Hospital. One month before she turned 21, she left Worcester and travelled by train with her best friend, May Fitzgerald, to Jacksonville, North Carolina, where she married Robert Merrill Taylor and began her life as a 30-year military wife. The highlight of her travels was her time spent in Hawaii. She loved the water, was a beautiful swimmer, and enjoyed both Pensacola Beach and Mustin Beach with her eight children. She instilled in her children both a love of the water and a love of music. She and her husband lived in Pensacola for more than 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years. She is survived by all eight of her children: Maureen (Allan) Costlow, Robert Merrill Taylor Jr., Mary (Mickey) Broxson, Constance (Charles) Joffrion, Timothy Owen Taylor, John Joseph (Angie) Taylor, Ann (Roger) Pearson, and Michael Shea (Hong Ton) Taylor. She is also survived by her sister, Gail (Richard) Shean of Punta Gorda, Florida. In addition to her eight children, Connie was grandmother to 14; and great grandmother to 19. A private Mass will be held at St. Sylvester Catholic Church followed by internment at Barrancas National Cemetery. Lewis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Emerald Coast Hospice, 1555 N Palafox Street, Pensacola, Florida 32501. The family wishes to express thanks to her faithful and loving caretakers: Perian Baker, Mary Ann Crumlish, Kiki Polanco, Mendi McCormick, Carrie Ostrander, Tanja Reneker, Val Robinson, Shari Sankeralli, Cathy Walker, Barbie Ward, Rhonda Williams, and Cathy Zaleske.
