Dale Adams Obituary

Dale Duane Adams passed away peacefully on December 5, 2014. Born on April 22, 1927 in Massillon, Ohio, Dale grew up with his parents, Alvin C Adams, Beulah Hoffman Adams, and his brother Willard Adams. He will be forever loved by his wife of 66 years, Bette Barton Adams, his children and their spouses: Janet Mayeaux (Dennis), Stephen Adams (Deb), and David Adams (Tina). Dale was Daddygran to his grandchildren: Marc Adams, Molly Adams, Emmy Adams, Carolyn Mayeaux Glasshoff (Jesse), Stephen Mayeaux, and Christine Mayeaux, as well as his great grandson, Peter Glasshoff. Dale enlisted in the United States Navy after graduation from Massillon High School and served at the end of World War II. He attended Western Reserve in Cleveland because of the GI Bill, and received a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree. This launched a life-long career in commercial and industrial roofing. In 1967, he moved his family to Venice, Florida where he owned Florida Horizons Roofing and Sheet Metal Company, and he was a founding member of the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Association. After retirement, Dale and Betty moved to Mount Dora, Florida. They were active in St. Edwards Episcopal Church, Silver Lakes Country Club, and the Yacht Club. Dale also was active in the Rotary Club. He maintained his memberships in the American Legion, and the Masonic Temple as well. In 2005, a final move to Milton, Florida allowed them to live their golden years near Janet and Dennis. Dale's first priority was to God, and then to his family, especially his sweetheart, Bette. He believed in working hard and playing hard. A plaque in his office read, “Everything cometh to he who waiteth so long as he who waiteth worketh like hell while he waiteth. After a long work week, he could be found on the golf course with his buddies teeing off at 8:00 a.m. sharp. Dale made friends everywhere he went. A close friend, Harry Galloway stated it best: “He always thought of the other guy”. Many people said that there was nothing he would not do to help someone. The family would like to extend thanks and love to all who helped Bette and Dale, especially Donna Kelley, June Lyon, and Kim Broxson. Sincere gratitude is also felt for everyone at Santa Rosa Health and Rehabilitation. There is no finer group of caring individuals. In addition, thank you to the VA administration for their support. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the home of Dennis and Jan from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19th . A private ceremony will take place on Monday, December 22, 2014, at Barrancas National Cemetery. Lewis Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Flowers and donations are not necessary, but anyone is welcome to play a round of golf in his memory.
