Donna Baxley Jernigan, 46, of Milton, went peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 15, 2019. Ms. Jernigan was a native and lifelong resident of Milton. She was born to Charles “Wayne” Baxley and Deborah Chavers Baxley on September 9, 1972. Donna had a career as a registered nurse that spanned over two decades. She earned her Associate’s degree in Nursing from PJC in 1992. More recently, she earned her Bachelor’s in Health Care Management from PSC in 2018. Donna began her career at Baptist Hospital as an oncology nurse. In 1996, she began working at Santa Rosa Medical Center as an operating room nurse. She retired from SRMC in 2016 as the OR Resource Coordinator. Donna is preceded in death by her father, Wayne Baxley; and her brother, Charles Ray Baxley. Donna is survived by her mother, Deborah Baxley; and her only child, a daughter, Kara Jernigan. She also leaves to cherish her memory, one brother, Benny (Tara) Baxley; one sister, Emily “Michelle” Baxley; four nephews and one niece; Daniel Todd, Courtnee Hubbard, Branden Baxley, Bryce Baxley, and Martin Todd; and her former husband, and father of her child, William “Jed” Jernigan. Donna was an active member of Stump Springs Baptist Church. Even at her worse times, you could find her at the church whenever the doors were open. As she would say, going to church can bring a peace about you like nothing else can. She loved her church family dearly. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Pastor Kevin Nelson officiating. Burial will follow services at Crain Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers include: Stewart Baxley, Len Baxley, Travis Stowers, Kevin Mitchem, Jamie Sauls, Ethan Brown, Stewart Mulford, and Michael Mulford. Honorary Pallbearers include: Daniel Todd, Branden Baxley, Bryce Baxley, Joey Cook, Pete Jernigan, Billy Bray, Tanner Lucas, Lynn Hubbard, Jeff Locklin, Steve Locklin, Mike Brown, Gary Cabaniss, Westel Cabaniss, Ricky Cabaniss, Winston Brown, and Andy Sandifer. The family would like to thank the following: her PCP, Dr. John Lee, for the years of compassionate care; Sacred Heart nurses and techs in PCU and ICU; and Covenant Hospice nurses, Mary and Donnie.
