Doris Adams

Doris “Juanita” (Looser) Adams went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. She passed away at the Tuscany House, a Hospice of Marion County facility, in Ocala where she resided. She was 85 years old. Juanita was born at Lanett, Alabama on August 12, 1926, to Joseph Clinton and Era V. Looser. She spent her early life and attended school in Lanett.. In 1941, at age 15, Juanita married and later gave birth to two sons (Sanford and Jerry), but after a difficult marriage was divorced. In 1949 Juanita married Carl Ray Adams and two more sons (David and Carl) were born. In 1955, the Adams’ family moved to Milton where Juanita and Ray worked and later retired from Monsanto. In 1988 they relocated to Camden, Alabama and spent two happy years on the much loved Alabama River before Ray’s death in 1990. Juanita moved back to Milton and later to Ocala to be near her sons. Through the years Juanita invested her life in her family and friends by sharing unselfishly and serving others. Boating and Camping on the Yellow and Blackwater Rivers, as well as the Gulf of Mexico, were some of her favorite activities and she enjoyed them with her sons, grandchildren, sister’s and brother’s families, nieces, nephews and friends. She taught all her children and grandchildren how to bait a hook and fish. Even after she was no longer able to fish herself she took great joy and excitement in the prize catches of family members. Her hobbies included crocheting many Christmas stockings, bedcovers and kitchen towels that she enjoyed giving to family and friends. She loved country music and was an avid reader with her favorite author being Agatha Christie. Her favorite preacher was Billy Graham and she read his book on Heaven numerous times. Up to a few weeks before she passed Juanita enjoyed perusing bookstores and shopping for her favorite outfits (pajamas) with friends and family. One of her greatest loves was sending birthday and holiday cards to her family and friends. Even after her death cards were found that were ready for mailing so she wouldn’t neglect sending everyone birthday blessings in 2012. After her move to Ocala she continued to correspond and occasionally visit her special friends from the Fidelis Sunday School Class, First Baptist Church in Milton, where she was a member. She spent her last 5 years happily in the home of her eldest son, Sanford, and his wife Sheila, who loving cared for her. Her family adored her and was amazed to watch her faith in the last few months before her passing. She approached death with grace and anxiously waited to see her Savior. She was predeceased by Carl Ray Adams, her husband of 41 years. Survivors include her sister, Duane Looser Alford and husband Clifford “Jr.”, of LaGrange, GA; her brother, Gregory Clinton Looser and wife Joyce of Dothan, AL; son Sanford P. Alford and wife Shelia of Ocala; son Jerry L. Alford and wife Julie of Sumatra; son David R. Adams and wife Rose of Chipley, and son J. Carl Adams and wife Sandie, of Savannah, GA. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous step grand/great grandchildren who she lavished her attention on. A memorial service will be held September 8th at 10 AM at the First Baptist Church Bamberg Chapel in Milton with Rev. Mary Ann Cassidy of Ocala officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Serenity Gardens in Milton with Lewis Funeral Home officiating. The family requests in lieu of flowers that honorariums be made to Hospice of Marion County, Inc., 3231 SW 34th Avenue, Ocala, FL 34474.
