Doris Azilee Nodine Powers, 88, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. She moved to Milton, with her husband Ken, in 1959. In the years that followed, Doris was an avid gardener, enjoying plants and flowers of all kind, and was a member of the Twilight Circle at the Garden Club in Milton. At the early age of 12, Doris began to teach Sunday school, and she continued for many years until she and her husband Ken, moved to assisted living. Doris also worked in establishing and helping to grow the library at Pine Terrace Baptist Church where she and Ken were active members. One of her many joys was to help the children check out books, videos, and other media and to encourage all to take advantage of the library. Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Ken Powers; and her parents, Amos and Elma Nodine, of Woodruff, South Carolina. She is survived by her two children, Trudy Bowles (Garry) of Roebuck, South Carolina, and Joe Powers (Wanda) of Milton. Doris has six grandchildren: Chad Bowles of Mobile, AL, Grayson Bowles of Roebuck, SC, Brady Bowles (Rae) of Charlotte, NC, Kim Hurst (Doug) of Madison, MS, Jason Powers (Meredith) of Milton, FL, Lori Johnson(Nat) of Milton FL; eight great-grandchildren: William Bowles, Riley Bowles, Carter Bowles, Kate Powers, Hannah Powers, Chase Powers, Hayden Hurst and Olivia Johnson. She is also survived by one sister, Jewell Nelson; and one brother, Boyce Nodine (Flo); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Pine Terrace Baptist Church in Milton, with Dr. Mike Wiggins officiating. Friends will be received at from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., prior to the service. Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, is in charge of arrangements.
