Dorothy Ernestine Hobbie Obituary

Dorothy Ernestine Stokes Lynn Hobbie, 96, of Bagdad, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017. Ernestine was born June 21, 1921, in Falco, Alabama (Covington County), to William Moses Stokes, Sr. and Georgia Edna Chance. When she was five years old the family moved to Harold, Florida. She attended Harold Elementary and graduated from Milton High School. She then attended Florida State College for Women and attained a BS degree in business. After graduation, she returned to Milton and worked as a teacher and finance director for the Santa Rosa County School Board for 34 years. Mom was the happiest when she was surrounded by her family. She also loved searching for her “roots.” She always said, “You got to know where you come from to know where you’re going.” She loved to read, travel and play on her computer. She was classy, smart, dignified, fair and generous – a true “southern lady.” She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Milton, Three Rivers Chapter of DAR, and the Daughters of the Confederacy. She was instrumental in starting the Santa Rosa County Credit Union. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Curtis Franklin Lynn and Lt. Col. Eugene Hobbie; two brothers, William Moses “W.M.” Stokes Jr. and Joseph George Lafayette “Buck” Stokes; two sisters, Viola Elizabeth “Dude” Goff and Virginia Evelyn Day; two nephews, Mike Stokes and Greg Day; and a niece, Ann Goff. Mrs. Hobbie is survived by her son, William Curtis (Billie Prater) Lynn; daughter, Susan Lynn (Tim) Holt; grandchildren, Jason Curtis (Catherine) Lynn, Carrie Rebecca Holt (Joe) Brauch, and Joshua Timothy (Amanda) Holt; great-grandchildren, Elora Rose Lynn, Nash Fisher Holt and Rowan Curtis Lynn; and many dear nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2017, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Rev. Mike Poston officiating. Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., prior to the service. “See ya later alligator, after while crocodile!”
