Dorothy Hicks

Dorothy Lorraine (Plant) Hicks, 93, of Pace, was surrounded by family when she went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 23, 2018. Dorothy was born April 15, 1925, in Santa Rosa County, Florida, one of fourteen children born to the late Burel and Clara Plant. She was a lifelong resident of Pace, FL where she was a devoted member of Pace Assembly of God Church and Calvary Way Full Gospel Church of Pensacola. Dorothy had retired from nursing at Santa Rosa Hospital; she was well-known for her cooking, gardening, fishing, sewing, and devotion to her faith and love for her family. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Oliver Hicks of Mt. Grove, Missouri; her precious daughter, Donna; both of her parents and nine siblings: Buford Plant, Odessa Myers, Burel “Man” Plant, Odelia “Dolly” Daniel, Clara “Missy” Fowler, Orville Plant, J.E. Plant, Wayne Plant, and Carl Plant. She is survived by her children, Glenda (Lem) Grant, Deanna Sue Dyess, and Ronnie (Terrie) Hicks; grandchildren, Tracy (Kevin) Price, Cheryl (Jay) Ashcraft, Shelley (Richard) Roberts, Anna Dyess (Brandon Riddle), Ryan (Kim) Hicks, Amanda Britton (Mark McClaskey), Cassie (Dayton) Cogburn, and April Hicks Rodgers (Cameron Mulwee); sixteen great-grandchildren; four siblings, Clayton Plant, Ivan (Renate) Plant, Joseph (Patsy) Plant, and Kenneth (Liz) Plant; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Sarge) Jackson, Jewel Spurgeon, and Mabel Hicks; and numerous family members including much-loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Pace Assembly of God Church. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018, at Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel. Burial will follow services in Strickland Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers are George “Pat” Daniel, Dewey Fowler, Dennis Fowler, Derwin Plant, Michael “Mike” Plant, and Tony Sanders. Honorary pallbearers: Charles and Catherine Bailey, Robert Jackson, Michael Weekley, and Waree Lee. Our appreciation goes out to Emerald Coast Hospice for their assistance with her care in the final days, and to all who have and continue to provide support for the family.
