"If you give a loving smile & hug to a stranger or a friend, It will warm the heart like sunshine and come back to you again" Dorothy Elizabeth Massingill Sherrer, age 86, of Pace, went home to be with our Lord Tuesday, April 26, 2016. She was born November 13, 1929, in Wilson, North Carolina. She served in the United States Army during WWII from 1948-1951 as an Information Specialist in Heidelberg, Germany. She was responsible for getting the military families out safely in the event of the fall of the Iron Curtain. She obtained the rank of Sergeant. Dorothy moved to Pensacola, Florida, in 1961. She was employed at and retired from Monsanto in 1985 as a Clerk Typist. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Milton, Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents, MAJ William L. and Irma Juanita Massingill; sister, Shirley Allen; husband of 20 years, Olun E. Sherrer; and her loving companion of 15 years, Weston “Pete” Williams. Dorothy is survived by her two sons and daughter, Bill (Linda) Caput, Michael (Tammy) Caput, Melody (AJ) Preble, Sr.; two sisters, Debra (Ed) Martin, Billie Sue (Donnie) Ferraro; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, relatives; and many, many friends whom she called family. Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (5737 Berryhill Rd, Milton, Florida.) Interment will follow Funeral Services in Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola Naval Air Station. The family would like to thank Covenant Hospice and Deborah North for their gentle loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in her name to Covenant Hospice (6479 Caroline Street, Milton, Florida 32570.)
