Douglas Simmons Obituary

Douglas Roy Simmons of Jay went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 27, 2020. He was retired from Monsanto after 37 years of service. Doug was a licensed pilot and enjoyed time spent flying with his friend, Dr. Thomas Stewart. He was an avid gardener and spent many days tending his yard. Doug was born with an adventurous spirit which continued throughout his life. Until his health declined, he was an active member of Cora Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Katie Simmons, and his wife of 52 years, Eloise (Warren) Simmons. He was a loving and devoted husband and caregiver. Doug was also preceded in death by his brothers: William, Howard, Clyde, Curtis, and Earl and sisters: Annie, Addie, and Elsie. He is survived by his brother, Cecil (Maxine) Simmons, sisters-in-law, Hazel Simmons, Maxine Pace, Kemp Soule, and brother-in-law, Jerry (Pam) Warren, nephew (caretaker) Tony (Mandy) Simmons, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020, at 11 am with visitation beginning at 10 am, with Rev. LaDon Hall, Rev. Matthew Dobson, and Rev. Earle Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Tony Simmons, Roger Dobson, Eddie Simmons, Gary Simmons, Timmy Diamond, Bart Hendricks, Joe D. Phillips, and Chad Diamond. The family would like to thank Dr. C. David Smith and Staff, The Staff of The Terrace At Ivey Acres, and Cora Baptist Church for their care and support. Lewis Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
