Dudley Oliver Gunter, an Ole War Eagle from Milton, Florida met his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 1st. Dudley was born on December 19, 1931 in Evergreen, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Horace and Ruby Lee Gunter of Andalusia, Alabama, and brothers, Warren Gunter, and Wade Gunter both of Alabama. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne Farish Gunter; brother, Donald Gunter, Montgomery; sister, Amy (Reverend Virgil) Cooper, Birmingham; sister-in-law, Patricia Gunter, Opelika; daughter, Vickie (Jim) Beagle, Milton; sons, Dale (Sharon) Brawley, David (Rita) Gunter, Milton; daughter, Celia (James) Decker, Columbus; 8 grandchildren, and 2 great granddaughters. Dudley grew up in Opp, Alabama, where he graduated from high school. He was an avid sports fan, playing basketball and football in high school, and basketball while in college and in the armed forces. He was a Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Master Mason, 50 years +, and a Charter Member of the Hadji Shrine Temple, taking part in the first ceremonial initiation as a clown. He took great pride in being an Auburn University graduate and was an enthusiastic Auburn sports fan, contributing annually to provide the same educational opportunities he had for others. He also served as a member of the armed forces during the Korean Conflict. Dudley worked with State Farm Insurance Company for 28 years as a Claims Representative. He loved his family and his many friends, especially the McDonald’s Coffee Shop group. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 3 at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday December 4 at Pine Terrace Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Wiggins and Rev. L. Hall, officiating. Burial to follow in Serenity Gardens Cemetery.
