Esther Sanborn Obituary

Esther Richardson Sanborn, 58, of Milton, Florida continued on her journey, passing peacefully from this world on Monday, June 20, 2011, at her home. Esther was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1952, in Gainesville, Florida, to Nancy and Walter Richardson. She spent her childhood in Evinston, Florida, where she lived with her parents, brother, Edward Richardson, and grandmother, Edna Richardson. She grew up a member of Evinston United Methodist Church and was a student of Christian Science that received Class Instruction. Esther attended Florida State University where she earned her bachelor's degree in Special Education and later obtained her master's degree in Industrial Psychology and Counseling from the University of West Florida. She married her childhood sweetheart, Jack Sanborn, on October 13, 1974 at her home in Evinston. In 1976 they moved from Jacksonville, North Carolina, to Milton where they founded Adventures Unlimited Outdoor Center. Esther cherished her three beautiful children, relished every opportunity to grow spiritually, and read nearly every book she could get her hands on. She loved the experience of helping mold the lives 700+ young men and women who worked at Adventures Unlimited, and facilitating memorable experiences to everyone who visited Adventures. She will be remembered for the lives that she touched and mentored, her beautiful, sweet nature, and her eagerness to seek new horizons, both physical and spiritual, to travel, learn, experience, and grow. Esther is survived by her husband, Jack Sanborn (Milton), daughter and son-in-law Ashleigh and Jon Powell (Newberry, Florida), son Shane Sanborn (Tampa, Florida), granddaughter, Drew Elizabeth Powell, and many family and friends in Milton and Evinston. She was preceded in death by her son, Walter Drew Sanborn, brother Edward Rou Richardson, and parents Nancy and Walter Richardson. The family thanks Dr. Thomas Tan, Covenant Hospice, managers and staff at Adventures Unlimited, the Sanborn family, the Richardson family, the Roberts family, the Powell family, the Johnstone family, and the Bagdad and Milton communities for all of their love, prayers, concern, and support. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 6:00 in the evening at Adventures Unlimited Outdoor Center. Dress for the service will be casual. Donations may be made in Esther's honor to Friends of the Milton Library or the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home. "Where God is we can meet, and where God is we can never part." (MY 131:20)
