On the evening of November 29, 2014, the angels rejoiced in heaven as they welcomed home Evelyn "Joyce" Smith; who tarried here with us for 72 years, after being born on July 24th of 1942. She was preceded in death by her father, James W. Ramsey; her mother, Hazel Pauline Franklin Ramsey Kivlehan; and her brother, Melvin Ramsey. She is survived by a loving husband, Benjamin W. Smith, whom she married on December 18, 1960. They devoted their lives to the service of God, family and country. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, L. Jenea and Michael Highfill; and grandchildren 27 year old Joseph Highfill and his wife Ashlee, and 15 year old Danielle McLaughlin. Joyce counted what she gave her family as her greatest accomplishments: "unending devotion to her husband, values and strength imparted to her daughter, fond memories, values and manners to her grandchildren, as well as always having someone's favorite food in the pantry or on the stove." A wife, mother and grandmother- she will live in our hearts always. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel, with Rev. Bob Young officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m. till 12: 00 p.m. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m., at Barrancas National Cemetery, Onboard Pensacola NAS, Pensacola, Florida.
