Gloria Prescott Obituary

Gloria Slavica Prescott December 22, 1927 – January 29, 2017 Gloria Slavica Prescott, 89, of Milton, Florida, passed away peacefully at Covenant Hospice at the West Florida Hospital on Sunday, January 29, 2017. She is preceded in death by husbands Joseph Placek, Frank H. Prescott, and Russell Clubb; and an infant son, Frank Charles Prescott. She is survived by her four daughters, Lillian Zagar Kelley, Mary Ann (Clay) Placek Campbell, Susan (Marco) Prescott Burton, and Frances Prescott Jacobs. She is also blessed with eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Gloria was born in Zagreb, Croatia (formerly Yugoslavia), in 1927, to Ljudevit Zagar and Rozalija (Loucky) Zagar. She came to the United States in 1952 and lived with her aunt and uncle in Brookfield, Illinois. There she worked at D. H. Keller Book Bindery and G.E. Hotpoint while attending night classes for nursing and learning English for her citizenship. While there, she met and married Joseph Placek, and they moved to Milton, Florida, where they bought and managed the Red River Ranch Motel. After Joseph’s untimely death, she married Frank H. Prescott, and together they continued in the motel business until 1973. She made one trip back to Croatia in 1975 taking her daughters to meet their relatives. Later she married Russell Clubb and together they camped and traveled around in their RV. She may have retired from the business world, but she was always busy taking home cooked food to shut-ins, being in the SRC Homemakers Club, and working in her vegetable and flower garden. She loved knitting, crocheting, sewing, playing Skip-Bo, and all types of crafts. There will be a graveside service at the old Milton Cemetery (392 Keyser Street) at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 4, 2017, with Pastor Andrew A. Martin officiating and Lewis Funeral Home handling the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Covenant Hospice in Pensacola. The families of Gloria Prescott would like to thank the ER and 3rd floor staff at Santa Rosa Hospital, Dr. Amin and the 7th floor staff at Sacred Heart Hospital, the staff at the Inpatient Covenant Hospice at the West Florida Hospital, and Cynthia Helms Price at Lewis Funeral Home.
