Harry James Peterson was welcomed into his Heavenly Father’s arms on Sunday, July 1, 2012, after a 7-½ year struggle with traumatic brain injury as a result of a motorcycle accident.
Harry was born in Superior, WI, and joined the Navy while still in high school. He was stationed at NAS Pensacola and fell in love with our beautiful beaches and water and decided to make it home.
Harry was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and friend. He loved the sea, was an expert scuba diver and dove numerous ship wrecks in Pensacola and many other places. He was in the process of writing a book about all the shipwrecks in his area.
He was a member of Abate and loved to participate in the Toys for Tots, Bear for Bears and Viet Nam Wall runs and other Abate activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Evelyn Peterson and step-son Tim Powell.
Survivors include his loving wife, Pat , son Danny Peterson (Heather) of Akron, OH; Brothers Carl Wright (Sharolyn) Las Vegas, NV; William Peterson, Pensacola, Fl; Richard Peterson, Destin, Fl; Step-daughter, Beth Powell, Pensacola, FL; Step-daughter-in-law, Lisa Powell, Milton, FL; and many nieces and nephews. He was a proud grandpa to Taylor and Sydney Peterson and Sarah and Grant Powell. Special thanks to his godson, James Wright, and good friend, Cliff Kirk, and the VA Home Health Team for all of their caring and support for Harry.
Service in Celebration of Harry’s Life will be held at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Barrancas National Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation at Lewis Funeral Home, 4777 W. Spencerfield Rd., Pace, Florida on Wednesday July 11, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m.
