Herbert Lee Segrest, age 75, died at The Health Center of Pensacola in Pensacola, Florida, on Friday, December 5, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born April 28, 1939 in Aransas Pass, Texas, Herb entered the Navy at the young age of 17. He served in the Navy for 20 years and retired in 1975. While in the Navy he served his country well including two tours of fighting in the Vietnam War. He ended his naval career as a Chief Petty Officer. Following his retirement from the Navy, he worked for the Iranian government in Tehran, Iran until the overthrow of the shah in 1979. He then worked as a Civil Service employee upon his return to the United States. Survivors include his precious wife of 50 years, Carolyn Childers Segrest; two daughters, April Martin and husband Clint, and Jill Sewell and husband Michael; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Connor, Elizabeth and Emily. He also leaves behind five beloved granddogs. Herb was a loving and devoted husband, dad, and Poppa. He will be remembered always as a Godly man who loved his family and put them first. He will also be remembered for his tremendous love of all things fishing – especially the great pleasure he took in catching and frying fish for others. Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service. Burial with honors will be held at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, December 11, 2014, at Barrancas National Cemetery.
