Irene C. Barnes, of Milton, Florida entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Irene was born in Escambia County Florida and moved to Milton at a young age. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Milton, Florida, where she taught the 13 year old girls Sunday School class, was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class, and a member of the Gideon’s Auxiliary. Mrs. Barnes served as a secretary for 11 years at First Baptist Church prior to becoming the secretary to County Court Judge Colie Nichols for 14 years. Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her parents Jeff Russell and Laura Hurst Russell, her daughter Jeanette Barnes, and sisters Geraldine Garrett, and Patricia Glover Lindsey. Irene is survived by Gerald Barnes, her husband of 71 years; her sister, Julia Ann King; her son, Ken Barnes (wife Vickie); grandsons, Kenny Barnes (wife Elizabeth Christine), Korry Barnes (wife Ashley Lynn), Klayton Barnes and Kaleb Barnes; great-granddaughter, Skye; great-grandson, Liam; along with many friends and relatives. Active pallbearers are Kenny Barnes, Korry Barnes, Klayton Barnes, Kaleb Barnes, Tom Hodgson, and Kevin Glover. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Faith Sunday School Class, members of the Gideon’s, Gideon’s Auxiliary, and members of the Fisher-Brown Sunday School Class. Special thanks to caregivers, Kim Shipman, April Townsend Williams, Gloria Swann, and Patsy Johnson, along with Linda Finnestad and the Regency Hospice Team. Family will receive friends at First Baptist Church in Milton on Sunday, July 20, 2014, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Services to follow with Rev. Fred Rogers and Dr. Mike Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow at Milton Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, overseeing arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Regency Hospice or the charity of your choice.
