James Edward Murphy passed away June 6, 2016, after battling cancer. James was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on May 5, 1944, to the late Charles Douglas Murphy and Tinnie Murphy Gwatney. He worked for Freeport McMoran as a Lab Tech, both in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, and offshore at Main Pass Mine. After retirement, he served in the Police Auxiliary of Kentwood Louisiana; and became an accomplished photographer, shooting weddings, taking portraits, and covering events for the VFW and American Legion. He was in the Louisiana National Guard. He was a member of the VFW 4407 Auxiliary and the American Legion Post 382. He belonged to the Masons Santa Rosa Lodge #16 in Milton, the Gerald H. Barrois Lodge #469 in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, the Eastern Star Chapter #253 in Pensacola, and the Eastern Star Chapter #189 in Milton. He had a strong faith in God and was a loving husband and father. James will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. James is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carolyn Steele; nephew, Douglas Murphy; and niece Tina. James is survived by his wife, Rebecca; son, Chuck; stepdaughter, Charlene Lim; stepson, Douglas Morrill; grandson, Scott McDougall; granddaughter, Caitlyn Murphy; two brothers, Jack Murphy and Fred Murphy; a sister, Mary (Susie) Ball; nieces and nephews, (Jack’s children) Peggy and Mike, (Fred’s children) Colleen and Danny, (Doug Murphy’s children) Taylor and Kacie, (Carolyn Steele’s children) Jerry, Wayne and Connie, and (Susie’s children) Stason and Brandon; and two cousins, Jerry Don Tolliver and Betty Lou Turner. A Memorial Service will be held with Masonic and Eastern Star Services, at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, June 25, 2016, at Lewis Funeral Home, Navarre Chapel. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., prior to the services.
