Janet Davis Obituary

Janet “Jan” Greene Davis, 82, of Bagdad, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2016. Jan was born in Brockton, Massachusetts, in 1934. She then lived in Whitman, Massachusetts, before moving to Milton, Florida. She is a member of the Bagdad United Methodist Church and served as historian for the church. Upon moving to Milton, Jan worked as a teller with the First National Bank of Milton. She served in many circles of the Milton Garden Club and was also a National Garden Club Life Member and a Florida State Garden Club Life Member. Jan served as president from 1976-1978. Jan was also an active member with the Daughters of the American Revolution, Blackwater Pyrates, and was an Eastern Star. Jan was also a member of the Bagdad Volunteer Fire Department serving for over 20 years, also serving as Secretary of the Santa Rosa County Firefighters Association. She has also contributed many years to preserving the history of Bagdad, Florida by serving with the Bagdad Historical Society and Bagdad Waterfronts. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Elizabeth Greene; her husband of 48 years, John H. Davis; and her brother-in-law, Leo V. Davis, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Davis of Bagdad, Florida; her sister-in-law, Alice Davis; niece, Lois Davis (Doug) Watts and their children, Miranda and Davis Watts of Atlanta, Georgia. Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2016, at the Bagdad United Methodist Church. Burial will follow services in the Bagdad Cemetery, with Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, directing. Pallbearers will be Buddy Bonifay, Will Meloy, Kenny Cranford, Greg Shouppe, Marc Ward, and Ronnie Arnold. Visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., prior to the services. A special recognition to her best friend, Michelle Diamond, for her dedication, care, and friendship. Also, a special recognition to the staff of Emerald Coast Hospice for their dedication and care during her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bagdad United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 62, Bagdad, Florida 32530.
