Janet Shorey, age 93 of Milton, FL was called by her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, 27 Nov. 2012 following complications due to heart failure. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. Janet was a beautiful, vibrant and kind woman with a loving heart. She was born on October 8, 1919 in Chestertown, Maryland, to Esther and Frank Briggs. A bright young lady who completed high school early, she was educated at the local Washington College. Her love of knowledge was a constant throughout her life, highlighted by a passion for travel, language, and daily crossword puzzles. Following a long career with the state of Maryland energy office, Janet moved to Milton in 2005 to live with her son Martin and wife Marie and was overwhelmed by the kindness of her new friends. Among many, these include the Saint Rose of Lima Church and its ladies' auxiliary Young at Heart, as well as the Milton Garden Club, Red Hat Club, and RSVP Fun Bunch. She volunteered with the Santa Rosa Medical Center Auxiliary and Blackwater Trail office. She is preceded in death her husband, George C. Shorey, and her son George C. Shorey, Jr. She is survived by her son, Martin, and granddaughters, Denise Shorey, Tammy Schipper, Cathy Mitchell, Cheryl Andrews, Mary Beth Johnson, and Melanie Chance. A Rosary will be held for her on Monday, 3 Dec., 10:30am at the Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Park Avenue, Milton with a funeral mass at 11:00am. Reception immediately following in the church hall. Janet will be laid to rest at a private family entombment at the Holy Cross Mausoleum in Pensacola, FL later that day.
