Janet Walker Obituary

Janet Lorraine Walker, 72, from Holt, Florida, left her tired, earthly body and went straight into the presence of God on Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Heaven is full of her laughter with her dear sister Bobbie. Janet was born February 7, 1946, in Pensacola, Florida, and was raised in Holt, Florida. She was the third daughter of Richard and Connie Yates. After dating Nicky Walker for seven years, she gave him an ultimatum to marry her or move on. Nicky made a wise choice and married her on July 3, 1967, at Pleasant Home Baptist Church. In order to be with her daughters every afternoon, she had her own beauty shop where she loved on her customers. Using her faith in Christ, she reached out to her community, freely giving of her time, money and energy in hope of glorifying God. After attending Pleasant Home Baptist Church as a child, she and Nicky moved their membership to Pine Terrace Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for third graders, the youth, and college and career for 43 years. They also organized the puppet ministry for many years at Pine Terrace Baptist Church. Pine Terrace Baptist Church was precious to her heart. She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Willie Ivey; grandmother, Marie Ivey; mother, Concetta “Connie” Yates; father, Richard Yates; and sister, Barbara Jean Stokes. Janet is survived by her husband of nearly 51 years, Nicky Walker; daughters, Shelley Rebecca Hamilton; son-in-law, Lawrence “Larry” Hamilton, Jacqueline Amanda Walker; granddaughters, Ashton Hadley Rae Oaks, Alexis Eve Hamilton; grandson, Jordan Michael Hamilton; sisters, Loretta Malloy, Phyllis Jernigan and Tammy Cabiness; brothers, Paul Yates and Lenny Yates; sisters-in-law, Helen Walker Suydam and Dorthey Yates; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Yates, Steve Malloy and Jeff Suydam; nieces, Pam Kirkland, Kerri Rigsby, Laura Davis, and Rebecca Kling; nephews, Lowell Stokes, Timothy Stokes, Shawn Gentry, Lee Gentry, Rusty Yates, Clint Yates, Aaron Jernigan and Adam Suydam. Janet was blessed with numerous great nieces and great nephews who loved her very much. Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2018, at Pine Terrace Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Pine Terrace Baptist Church, Milton, Florida. Burial will follow services in Serenity Gardens Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing.
