Janice Lee Obituary

Janice Faye Sims Lee, 78, of Pace, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017. Janice was born October 26, 1938, in Meridian, Mississippi, to parents, Jerrus and Miriam Sims. She was raised in Mobile, Alabama. Her mother passed when Janice was but 12 yrs of age, at which time she began caring for her siblings and what would become her life calling: “caring for family and friends.” In 1958, she followed her father along with her family to Pace, Florida, where he began his career in owning and operating various service stations in the area. Pace has remained her home, except on a couple of brief periods, until her passing. Janice lived a simple life, full of complex situations. Satisfaction and happiness came to her in life as she saw success and happiness in her children and grandchildren’s lives and those of her friends and neighbors. Janice’s passion in life was her children, grandchildren, and serving others. She humbly ministered to everyone she knew. She was a “second mother” to many single mothers, gathering them under her wings and making them part of her family, nurturing them with love and helping the young women learn to care for their children and stand on their own two feet. She “ministered” to the young missionary Mormons that rode their bikes to her house, cooking for them, loving them, fondly naming them “the boys” and including them in her family, surrounding them with “family love” and a home for Christmas. Many of “the boys” cut her trees and helped her with odd jobs around the house through their missionary years in Pace, till the next group of “the boys” came around. Janice was a member of Pace Assembly of God. She raised her children with her strong faith in Christ, and to the children, worse than a “whooping” was having to sit on the front row of the church and the sisters of the church praying the meanness out of them; stories such as this are all told with fond memories and appreciation of their mother “raising them right” and the village (church) that helped her. Mama never held a grudge and always “left it to the good Lord” to take care of conflicts or wrongs. In the last few days, our family has heard stories from family and friends that all seemed to start with, “If it hadn’t of been for mama . . .”, If it hadn’t of been for memaw . . .”, “If it hadn’t of been for mama Janice . . .”, etc.; these stories have been such a comfort for us, knowing how much our mama loved and cared for so many, many people with her quiet spirit. Thank you for loving our mama and sharing your story with us. She is preceded in death by her father, Jerrus Justice Sims; mother, Miriam Reddoch Sims; husband, Luther Lee; daughter, Angela K. Anderson; sister, Beverly Weekley; and a brother, Larry Sims. Janice is survived by four children, Robert Goodman of Pace, Florida, Ernie (Terri) Anderson of Mobile, Alabama, Sharon Anderson of Pensacola, Florida, and Bryan (Jennifer) Anderson of Moore, Oklahoma. She also leaves to cherish her memory, eight grandchildren, Angela, Robert, Janice, Jordan, Lexi, Brady, Bayleigh and Lawson; eight great-grandchildren, Jeramiah, Kayla, Logan, Easton, Jacey, Jackson, Nathan and Ryan; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Rev. Glyn Lowery officiating. Burial will follow services in Strickland Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., prior to the services.
