Janice Parker Obituary

Janice (Jane) Parker, a Christian and member of Blackwater Baptist Church, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, August 18, 2013. She was born September 16, 1941, in Brewton, AL. She was a resident of the Belandville community above Munson in Blackwater River State Forest. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Mack and Martha (Overstreet) Brackin; grandparents, Curtis and Bama Overstreet, and Charlie and Armintha Brackin. Jane is survived by her Dear husband and the love of her life, Millard (Billy) Parker; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Ersel Brackin; nephew and family, Max, Brenda, and Kristen Tackett; sisters-in-law and families, Sam and Julia Ray Velez-Castello, Julie and Kalin Kellum; Jim, LeeQue, and Sarah McCombs; brother-in-law and family, Clifford, Judy, and Phil Parker; a special "daughter" (shared by her real parents) and family, Philip and Becky Nation and children Andy and Rachel; many cousins; a loving and caring church family; and many wonderful friends and neighbors. Jane cherished her church, family and friends and getting together with them for meals and fellowship. Graduating from Munson High School in 1958, Jane attended Florida State University and graduated in 1963 with a BS in Office Management. She worked as secretary to Mrs. Ora Edmunds, the first School Lunch Supervisor in Santa Rosa County, for a year after graduation from FSU. She then went to work as a secretary in Pensacola at Newport, a Division of Tenneco Chemicals. When her father became ill with cancer, she moved back home to Belandville in 1968 and was hired as a teacher at Munson School where she taught until her retirement in 1997. She gave her all to teaching her students. She also taught Sunday school at Blackwater Baptist Church for many years and helped establish a church library. The most important thing to her was to see people come to Jesus, get saved, and become active members of a church. Jane loved her communities of Belandville and Munson and thanked God daily for being able to live in the forest and enjoy the wonders of God's creation. She volunteered with the Santa Rosa Clean Community System and encouraged folks in the Munson area to participate in the Adopt-A -Spot program to help keep trash off the roadsides. In Munson she helped start participation in the Great American Clean-Up. Recycling was important to her as well, and she encouraged others to participate in the recycling program in Santa Rosa County. Jane was not shy about expressing her opinions about social and political issues. When something came up in the culture that she was concerned about, she was ready to "write a letter' to express her opinion. She was a strong believer in the fact that one person can make a difference in the life of someone else and in the culture. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Blackwater Baptist Church. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the church with Rev. Alton Nixon, officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Home Baptist Church cemetery Contribution may be made to: Blackwater Baptist Church 11689 Munson Hwy., Milton, FL 32570 or a charity of your choice.
