Jean Fogle Obituary

Jean Claire Fogle, 94, was called to her Lord’s arms on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in The Villages Regional Medical Center in Florida. Born in Morristown, New Jersey on a warm July day to parents, Gladys and Raymond Townley, Mrs. Fogle was the first of three children. She is survived by her younger brother, Glenn Townley of Seaford, Delaware. After completing a degree to become a Registered Nurse, the beautiful, young Jean (nee) Townley married Army Sgt. William D. Fogle in a lovely December wedding in Madison, New Jersey, in 1943. Shortly afterward, the young couple lived in New York City where Jean worked as a hospital, private-duty, and doctor’s nurse. They lived in a small, walk-up apartment on the lower Eastside with a bathtub in the kitchen and a shared bath down the hall—all quite “the norm” for young, war-era couples at the time. Later on, Mrs. Fogle became a wonderful, loving mother. First, to a daughter, Linda; then to a son, Matthew; followed by two more daughters, Martha and Sarah. After her children had a firm start in life and first elementary school years under tiny belts, Jean went back to the work she also loved: nursing. She worked as a school nurse, a visiting nurse, and a psychiatric nurse. Her favorite was practicing as a visiting nurse in Somerset County, NJ where she met and grew to love the many families she helped and treated with the tender care and compassion that was her hallmark. As it came time to slow down a bit, Mr. and Mrs. Fogle moved to sunny Florida in 1972 where they met new friends, were closer to family, and shared many happy times at the beach, fishing and enjoying all Florida has to offer. From trips to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon, to combing the best beaches for shells and sharks teeth, from attending the Church of Christ with congregations she loved, to watching her children and grandchildren grow and start their own families, Mrs. Fogle’s passions were simple and few: God, family (including the Church), and God’s creations around her. She loved them all fiercely. God has called her home to His paradise. She is survived here by: her brother, Glenn Townley of Delaware; daughter, Linda (Richard) Zaleski of Punta Gorda, Florida; son, Matthew (MaryLee) Fogle of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter, Martha (Monroe) Haltaman of Mulberry, Florida; and daughter, Sarah (David) Myers of Wildwood, Florida. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Margaret Street Church of Christ in Milton, Florida; with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private at Barrancas National Cemetery, onboard Pensacola Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Mrs. Fogle’s home church, Wildwood Church of Christ, in Wildwood, FL. Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, has been entrusted with arrangements.
