Jerome L. Goebel, Colonel, USMC Retired, age 93, of Milton, Florida, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014. Jerome "Jerry" was born January 16, 1921, in Mankato, Minnesota, to Edward and Zita Goebel. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942. After finishing Flight School, he was commissioned into the Marine Corps. He flew fixed wing, jets and helicopters accruing over 7,500 hours. He served in WWII, Korea (2 tours) and Viet Nam. He finally graduated from college after ten years of going to night school and taking correspondence courses. He continued to matriculate with 40 Master hours. Jerry retired from the Marines in 1973. He went on to work in the Marine Transportation industry for many more years. He retired to Pensacola in 1983, moving to Milton in 1995. He was very active with St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Steven J. Goebel; daughter, Karen Cardarelli; brothers, Leon and Richard; and his sister, Lenore Goebel Tweto. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara Mac Lachlan Goebel of Milton, Florida; daughter, Christine Clark, of Milton Florida; sons, Jay (Patrice) of Murrieta, California, Bob (Brenda) of Pensacola, Florida, Peter (Kathleen) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Matthew (Angela) of Temecula, California; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the rosary at 5:00 p.m., at Lewis Funeral Home, 6405 Highway 90 West, Milton, Florida. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m., at St. Rosa of Lima Catholic Church, 6451 Park Avenue, Milton, Florida. Interment will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. with full military honors. A reception will be held at the Parish Hall at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association, in lieu of flowers.
