Joann McCombs

Joann Johnson McCombs, 80, of Milton, Fl, entered the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. Joann Johnson McCombs was born to the late Arrie Lee and Mary Burnham Johnson on December 24, 1931, in Pensacola, Florida. She married the love of her life, William Conner McCombs , on June 10, 1952 in Milton, Florida. They would have celebrated 60 blissful years of marriage this June. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, William C. McCombs, her children Dr. Janet McCombs of Athens, Ga, William Conner McCombs Jr. (Mary) of Orlando, Fl, and Leann McCombs of Milton, Fl. She also leaves to cherish her memory her loving grandchildren Rachel Rose and William Conner McCombs III. She was educated in Santa Rosa County schools, graduating from Milton High School in 1949 and received her Bachelor of Arts from Auburn University in 1951 in Elementary Education. She went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University of South Alabama in 1975. She furthered her education at Florida State University and received her Specialist Degree in Administration. She retired from the Santa Rosa County School Board in 1992 after serving as a teacher, librarian, and Director of Media Services. She was the sister to Francis Leo Johnson (Norma), the late Marjorie Barganier , Mary Elizabeth Alford (Percy), James Eli Johnson (Betty), and T. Sol Johnson (Mary). She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews Visitation will be Friday, March 23, 2012 from 5 PM to 7 PM at the First Baptist Church Milton, Florida. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at First Baptist Church Milton with DR. David Spencer Officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be the H.O.P.E Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Milton. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Baby Nursery at First Baptist Church Milton or Covenant Hospice in Honor of Joann J. McCombs. The family would like to express their gratitude for the love, care and support given by the nurses and doctors at West Florida Hospital and Covenant Hospice. We will see you again.
