John Hughes

John was a native of Pace and the second of four sons born on June 28, 1944, to the late Tom and Ina Hughes. John is a graduate of Milton High School and attended Jacksonville State University. He is a veteran of the United States Army and spent over 10 years in the music industry, serving as a record promoter for labels MCA, RCA, and Eleckra Records, working with artists such as The Eagles, Eddie Rabbitt, and Hank Williams Jr. In 1970, John married his first wife, Caroyln Alfano Hughes and together, they have a son, John David Hughes, born in 1971. After leaving the music industry, John returned to Pace, Florida, and worked as a boat salesman until he retired. In 2005, John married his current wife, Belinda Hughes, of Baker, Florida. John’s hobbies included music and cooking. He especially enjoyed spending time with close friends at his hunting camp in Alabama, and visiting his son and grandson in College Station, Texas. John is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Ina Hughes; and brothers, Tommy Hughes and Billy Hughes. John is survived by his wife of 12 years, Belinda Hughes, of Milton, Florida; his son, John David Hughes, of College Station, Texas; daughters, Lisa Covert of Columbus, Ohio, and Jennifer Dominguez of Milton, Florida; and two grandsons, Hayden Hughes of College Station, Texas, and Jordan Wilkinson of Milton, Florida. Funeral services for John will be held 6:00 p.m., Saturday December 2, 2017, at Lewis Funeral Home in Pace, Florida, with Glenn Wratchford officiating. Visitation will be held 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the staff of Covenant Hospice for the love and care given to their husband, father, and brother during his time of illness. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be made to Covenant Hospice to assist other families with loved ones affected by cancer.
