Joyce Day Obituary

Joyce Day, 86, of Milton, Florida, was given her angel wings, Sunday, April 2, 2017, with her family by her side. She was born on April 3, 1930, to Dock and Betty Hayes in Chipley, Florida. She became a military wife when she married B.C. Day on August 12, 1947, and they lived in many different places throughout his military career before settling in Milton, Florida. She loved antiques and the two of them took many trips “antiquing” where they would purchase furniture or other items that most would find ugly and then they would turn them into something beautiful! She loved being outdoors! She spent much of her time gardening, feeding the birds and squirrels, watching the deer in her pasture, and taking care of her cows. Up until this past year you could find her outside doing a number of things that many couldn’t do in their youth; bush hogging, putting out large bales of hay with her tractor, separating cows to take off to the sale, weed eating and mowing her yard, pulling weeds, planting her garden, just to name a few. She made the best sweet tea and enjoyed drinking it from frosty Mason jars straight from the freezer. She was a very determined person and worked hard every day of her life, she had one speed and that was full throttle. She liked her coffee fresh and very strong, she would tell us she wanted to be able to taste the coffee. She was very independent and did not want someone doing something that she could do herself. She loved having a fire in her fireplace. She was most definitely the rock and backbone of our family. She loved her family and friends and even learned how to use the computer to keep in touch with them through Facebook. To her, family was everything and she wanted everyone to be together and to be happy. She was everything that was good, a selfless person always wanting to help anyone that she could. She was the strongest woman both mentally and physically. She was most definitely one of a kind. Mawmaw made the world a better place and she touched the lives of so many different people from all walks of life. She loved God and was a member of First Baptist Church of Milton and the Martha Sunday School Class for many years. She loved all of those in her Sunday School class very dearly. She was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Bernard C. Day; one brother, Royster Hayes; and two sisters, Deloris Johnson and Sylvia Forehand. She is survived by her younger sister, Farris (Marvin) Swindle of Silver Creek, Mississippi; two sons, Greg (Joan) Day of Clarksville, Tennessee; Jeff Day of Milton, Florida; five grandchildren, Clif (Somer) Day of North Little Rock, Arkansas; Susan (Seth) Mulhearn of Conway, Arkansas; Jennifer Day of Milton, Florida; Jeffery Day, Jr. of Milton, Florida; and Jody Day of Atmore, Alabama; and nine great-grandchildren, Vivian, Bauer, and Francis Day of North Little Rock, Arkansas; Setler, Hayes, and Daylee Mulhearn of Conway, Arkansas; Nicholas Day of Milton, Florida; and Alyssa and Alexis Day of Pensacola, Florida. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Elder Wayne Blocker officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Gardens. Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., prior to the service. Active Pallbearers: Larry Hayes, Dennis Hayes, Daryle Hayes, Josh Hayes, Clif Day, Jody Day, Seth Mulhearn, and Rob Willis.
