June Gilbert Obituary

June Morton Gilbert, 87, of Milton, Florida, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, October 22, 2016. Her final hours were spent recalling happier times surrounded by loving family members. June was born in Petros, Tennessee. She graduated from Lake City High School, and married Ronald J Gilbert in 1944. The Gilbert family moved to Milton, Florida, in 1955. June graduated from Pensacola Business School and worked as a bookkeeper for Mack Williams Furniture and Appliance until she retired to care for her bedridden mother. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hicks and Ruby Morton; and her husband. June is survived by her son, Ronnie J. “Tink” Gilbert, of Milton, Florida; and two daughters, Pat (Tommie) Godwin of Wewahitchka, Florida; and Paula (George) Coffey of Pace, Florida; four grandchildren, Robin (David) Pruett of Holly Pond, Alabama, Matthew (Kelly) Godwin of Wewahitchka, Florida, Jason (Zara) Godwin of Thrampton, England, and Christy Nixon of Rockville Centre, New York; and one great-grandson, Jackson Pruett of Birmingham, Alabama. June was often described as ‘fiesty’. Her favorite sayings were “I tell the whole truth” and “I tell like it is”. She was quick to share these sayings. June loved family, fishing, and college football, especially the Auburn Tigers and Georgia Dawgs. Even after she lost her sight, she would still “watch” college football games with her son “Tink”, acting as her personal play-by-play commentator. She and Ronald were avid fisherpersons and fished many Southeastern rivers and lakes with The Milton BASS Club. June and Ronald were permanent partners for all tournaments. She was an original member of the West Milton Church of Christ. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Minister Mike Mefford officiating (6405 Hwy. 90 West, Milton). Burial Services will follow at Serenity Gardens Cemetery (Hwy. 87, Milton.) Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., prior to the services.
