Our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2018, surrounded by her family after a long illness. Kateri Mary Baker, 82, born on October 28, 1936, in Mobile, Alabama, was a graduate of Bishop Toolen High School in 1954 and Spring Hill College in 1958. It was in Mobile where she met and married the love of her life, John Robert “Rob” Baker. Kateri raised four children while she followed her husband Rob across the country in support and pursuit of his career. They lived in Mobile, Alabama, Pensacola, Florida, Moses Lake, Washington, Stuttgart, Arkansas, St. Charles, Louisiana, Troy, Ohio, and finally retired to Pace, Florida. While her children were young, she volunteered at their schools and in the community as a coach. When she found time for herself she filled it with golf. After retiring to Pace, Kateri worked alongside of Rob as a volunteer for the Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Milton. Kateri was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert “Rob” Baker, Sr.; mother, Josephine Elizabeth Fletchinger McHugh; father, Joseph Edwin McHugh; and her beloved son, Gregory Doyle Baker of Mobile, Alabama. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and loyal friend is survived by her two brothers, John Daniel McHugh, Hilton Head, South Carolina and Aloysius McHugh, Woodstock, Georgia; four children, Kateri Ann Dingle, Pensacola, Florida, John Robert, Jr., Pensacola, Florida, Robin Ashleigh Campbell, Conyers, Georgia, and Rebecca Lynn Simmons, Stuttgart, Arkansas. Kateri was grandmother to nine, Jessica Dingle Lee, Caitlin Dingle, James Matthew Dingle, Alex Dingle, John Robert Baker, III, Hannah Baker, Mallory Campbell, Amanda Simmons Melroy, Shelby Simmons; and great grandmother to five, Audrey Lee, Grayson Lee, Cooper Preston Hughes, Caiden Dingle, Jaymi Cannon-Dingle, and Emma Melroy. Rosary and visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, December 3, 2018, at Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel). Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church (6451 Park Avenue, Milton, Florida 32570), with a reception to follow in the parish hall. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., December 4, at Pine Crest Cemetery (1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama), where Kateri will be laid to rest next to her husband and son. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus, Milton Council 7027 Benevolent Fund, 6451 Park Avenue, Milton, Florida 32570; the American Lung Association; or Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
