Kenneth McClannan Obituary

Kenneth Dale McClannan, age 80, of Mary Esther, Florida, passed away at his home on December 2, 2014. He was born to James E. McClannan and Ida Marie Spade on December 8, 1933, in Darke County, Ohio. Kenneth was the youngest of five sons. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Mary J. Schaffer, of Piqua, Ohio. The two were married 43 wonderful years before Mary died in 2000 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Kenneth honorably served over 20 years in the United States Air Force, and flew combat missions in Korea as a young airman. He was recognized with many honors, including the prestigious Air Medal. During his time in the military, he often volunteered his time to assist with youth baseball and swimming. Following military service, he was a government service employee at Eglin Air Force Base. Kenneth was also a member of Navarre United Methodist Church. Kenneth will be remembered for his kind and giving spirit, and being a great father, brother, and friend. Kenneth is survived by his son, Doug McClannan and wife Kathy and daughter Kristen Munn and her husband Yancey; he is also survived by his daughter, Deborah Helms and her daughter Lauren Elsas and her husband Philip. He is also survived by his brother, Don and family of Fresno, California; his brother Morris and family of Trotwood, Ohio; and his brother Gene and family of Piqua, Ohio. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2014, at 2:00pm at the Navarre United Methodist Church. The family wishes to extend special thanks to friends who helped make this loss bearable.
