Larry Newton Jones, 71, of Milton, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016. Larry was born on November 4, 1944, to the late Raymond Jones and Verlon Melatt (Newton) in his grandmother’s home in Slocomb, Alabama. He was a native of the Florida Panhandle and had lived in East Milton for the past 32 years. He graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in 1962. Although he had many jobs over his life, he spent the most years working with his brothers and nephew painting for Jerry Jones Painting. He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond Jones of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; his mother, Verlon Melatt (Newton) of Midway, Florida; and his step-father, Thomas Melatt of Midway, Florida. Larry is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Anne E. Jones (Myers), of Milton, Florida; his son, Jimmy R. (Deborah) Jones, of Freeport, Florida; his daughter, Amber C. (Dan) Barnes (Jones) of Milton, Florida; his daughter, Jennifer L. Jones of Atlanta, Georgia, his seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He has four brothers and one sister, Jerry (Liz) Jones, Peggy (Dennis) Carlson, Mike (Glenda) Jones, Tommy (Julie) Jones, and Doug (Paula) Jones. A private family gathering was held Sunday, July 3, 2016, to honor his life. Lewis Funeral Home of Milton is handling the cremation process. The family would like to thank all those that sent thoughts and prayers.
