Leighton Smitherman Milton, Florida Obituary

Leighton Smitherman

On Saturday, June 20, 2015, our sweet daddy, Leighton Calhoun Smitherman, met his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born February 28, 1936, in Maplesville, Alabama, to Wesley and Jenny Smitherman. He began a career as a machinist with the Chemstrand Company in 1955, and continued until his retirement in 1993. Retirement years were long, and he loved every day spending time fishing, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 58 years, Virginia; daughter, Cindy (Tom) Painter; two sons, Douglas Leighton Smitherman and Leighton Craig (Boni) Smitherman; three grandchildren, Cassy, Andrew and Matthew Smitherman; and a beloved sister, Nell Thomas, all of Santa Rosa County. Daddy accepted Christ in 1959, when he met Pastor Frank Trawick, of Galilee Baptist Church. Under his teaching, daddy began a life-long love of Bible study. Daddy taught us valuable life lessons that will be stored in our memory banks our entire lives. Our family and friends have been blessed to have a man of his integrity and moral character to lead and guide through life's journey. As daddy's health began to fail, he praised his Lord for giving him a life most men only dream of. So, goodnight daddy, see you in the morning. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Bible Baptist Church in Pace, with Pastor Danny Brock officiating. Visitation will be held 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church. Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, has been entrusted with arrangements. Thank you Covenant Hospice staff. You were angels from heaven, sent to comfort us.
