Marion Pollard

Marion “Jim” Atlas Pollard, age 79, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at his home in Milton, Florida. Jim was a native of Arkansas, the first child born to the late Reverend Marion and Gracie Pollard. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Beth Doughfman. He leaves behind on this earth, his wife of 50 years, Harolyn (Head) Pollard; his son, Billy Pollard and his wife Vicki; his daughter, Emmalee (Pollard) Moser and her husband Russ; his son, Weslee Shane Pollard and his wife Tiffany; his son, Jeff Pollard and his wife Mary; daughter, Lisa; and ten grandchildren. Jim and Harolyn were also loving foster parents to 23 children over the years. Jim leaves behind extended family, as well as many brothers and sisters in Christ. After serving twenty years as a US Navy Chief Petty Officer (including a tour in Vietnam), he began a second career as a civilian contractor for nine years at NAS Whiting Field, then at NADEP (NAS Pensacola) for ten years. After his retirement from the US Navy, he went back to college and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of West Florida, graduating in 1985. He served as Deacon of New Life Baptist Church, receiving the honor of Deacon Emeritus in 2014. He enjoyed working as a dog groomer for many years. He was employed at West Florida Hospital as a patient care technician until his retirement. A Memorial Service, celebrating Jim’s life, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017, at New Life Baptist Church, with his pastor and friend, Jim Stickle, officiating. Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., prior to the service. Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Jim’s memory, to help fund paving the parking lot at New Life Baptist Church, Milton.
