Mark Reinhardt Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Lieutenant Mark “Rhino” Exley Reinhardt, United States Navy Retired, whom entered eternal life in December of 2014. Mark Exley Reinhardt, of Milton, Florida, was born in Wheaton, Illinois, on July 19, 1957, to the late Joseph A. and Shirley E. Reinhardt. Mark is survived by his wife, Majel Reinhardt, of San Antonio, Texas; his daughter, Sarah Reinhardt, of Carmel, Indiana; and son, Mike Melillo, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Also surviving Mark are, his sister, Ann Burnworth (Kent) of Evansville, Indiana; brother, Jay Reinhardt (Helen) of Liverpool, New York; sister, Nancy Smith (Sam) of Nampa, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews including Jeffrey Reinhardt, Fran Reinhardt Ota, Becky Burnworth, Sammi Burnworth, George Smith and Betsy Smith Rogers. Mark holds PhD's, graduate and undergraduate degrees from Ball State University, The University of Michigan, and the University of Alabama Birmingham. Mark was a highly accomplished Officer in the United States Navy. As an Aviator, his primary aircraft was the P-3 Orion before returning to NAS Whiting field as an instructor. Mark’s career was cut short due to the onset and diagnosis of the family’s legacy of Type 1 Diabetes during an annual flight physical. In true “Rhino” fashion he did not let diabetes hold him back from success, instead he used his disease as a motivator and enrolled in the University of Alabama. Mark became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and continued his service to his country at Eglin Air Force base in the Anesthesia Department. Mark administered general anesthetics, regional anesthetics, and obstetric anesthesia. Outside of work Mark was a true outdoorsman enjoying boating, fishing, snorkeling, diving, and kayaking. A service for LT Mark Exley “Rhino” Reinhardt of Milton, Florida, will be held on February 7,2015. Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of Mark at 11:30 a.m., at NAS Whiting Field Chapel Bldg. 1417, 7550 USS Essex St., Milton, Florida 32570. In lieu of flowers please make a charitable donation in his name to your favorite charity. Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, was entrusted with arrangements.
