Mary Elizabeth Boles Obituary

Lib declared Victory in Jesus’s name Wednesday, May 6, 2020 and went home to be with her Lord. She was born February 7, 1936 in Pensacola, FL and was a lifelong resident of Milton, FL. She is survived by her husband, Percy Alford, husband for 19 years, sibling James Eli (Betty) Johnson, her two sons, Judson Gordon (Daphne) Boles, Chadwick Johnson (Cyn) Boles, two granddaughters, Kala (D.J.) Renee Boles Josephson and Francise Elizabeth Boles and three great-grandchildren Bobby, Elizabeth and Kenzie Josephson. Lib graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (API), renamed shortly thereafter to Auburn University, in 1958. It was in her senior year, Auburn won the first of many College Football Championships, besting Alabama 14-8 to seal it. After graduation, her degree from the College of Education and her overflowing love for children and family, brought her back to Milton, FL. As loyal to her career as she was to her family, she began teaching at Navy Point Elementary and then taught for thirty years in the Santa Rosa County School School District's Berryhill Elementary. Lib married Julius (Gordon) Boles, another long time Milton resident and businessman, in 1964. She then moved to an eighty-acre live oak forest on Pine Blossom Road, bore two sons and loved all three as Christ taught. From Christ’s Love, came mom’s steely guidance, undying loyalty and perpetual forgiveness. While farming and teaching were lifelong vocations, her knowledge of Christ grew at First Baptist Church of Milton, FL before and after college. For a brief period, she attended a torchlight of Christ’s love; Pine Terrace Baptist Church. After Berryhill retirement, Gordon’s elder care and Jud and Chad finding their own way, Lib had many new beginnings. She began to travel and exercise, became a member of the Pensacola Quilter's Guild and dusted off her hymn book in the FBC choir. In 2001, Lib married Percy Alford, originally from Birmingham, AL and a lettering halfback for Shug Jordan's 1953 Auburn Tigers. She is preceded in death by her parents, Judge A.L. Johnson and Mary Burnham Johnson, the father of her children Gordon Boles, her sisters Joann McCombs, Marjorie Barganier, and two brothers, Francis Leo Johnson and T. Sol Johnson. She is yours Lord, and always has been. LEWIS FUNERAL HOME is in charge of the arrangements. A home-going graveside service is scheduled at 11 a.m at Serenity Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First Baptist Church Benevolent Group.
