Mary Grayson Obituary

Mary Kate Williamson Grayson, 81, of Milton received her Heavenly reward on January 12, 2015. Kate was born to the late Rex and Lucy McLeod Williamson in Crenshaw County, Alabama, on October 9, 1933. Kate was the Salutatorian of Luverne High School Class of 1951. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Troy University, Master’s degree from the University of Florida and a Library Science endorsement from the University of West Florida. On March 12, 1954, Kate married the love of her life, the late Howard L. Grayson. They moved to central Florida where they taught for several years before relocating to Milton so they could be closer to their families. Howard and Kate retired from the Santa Rosa County School System and began their many adventures in farming, gardening and flea marketing. They were faithful members of the Milton Community of Christ where Kate held the office of Teacher. A portion of her ministry included visits, phone calls, birthday cards and nursing home programs. Kate will be remembered as having a smile and kind word for all as well as being an example of the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31. Kate is preceded in death by her loving husband, parents and a brother, Terrel Williamson. She is survived by her brother, John Travis Williamson of Goshen, Alabama; sisters, Joyce W. (Cecil) Spear of Auburn, Alabama, and Judy W. Goode of Roanoke, Alabama; sisters-in-law, Lina Grayson Clary of Milton, Florida, and Linda Williamson of Goshen, Alabama; a special niece, Jackie Crutchfield; and great-nephew, Todd Crutchfield, of Milton, Florida; as well as a host of other nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Kate Grayson will be at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 16, 2015, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Elders Wayne Blocker and Don Coleman officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Serenity Gardens. Flowers will be accepted and appreciated or donations may be made in Kate’s memory to: Community of Christ, Youth Fund, P. O. Box 410, Milton, Fl. 32572, or Covenant Hospice 6479 Caroline St., Suite B, Milton, Fl. 32570
