Mattie Belle Payne Mattie Belle Payne, 93 of Chumuckla, FL passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014. She was born on January 17, 1921 in Anderson South Carolina, to the late William Henry Payne and Mattie Burson Payne. She was the youngest of seven children. Mattie moved to Escambia County, Fl. As a young woman and was in the second group of people hired at Chemstrand. She later moved to Chumuckla and bought her farm. Farming was Mattie’s passion, she enjoyed her cows, chickens and her dogs. Forty two years of her life was shared with her loving companion, Chester T. Kinney, now deceased. She is survived by Doug Horton whom she raised as her son, and his wife Betty. Other survivors include several nephews, nieces and cousins. Visitation will be Wednesday April 30, 2014, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, with the service following at 2:00pm, at the Chumuckla Community Church, with burial following at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Lowery, Bill Hughes and Eddie Knowles.
